Fellowship Hall Expansion

The Fellowship Hall expansion project is underway with a completion date set for October of 2008. This expansion will provide a catering kitchen with the capability of cooking for 250 and serving over 400 at a time. It will have a walk-in fridge and freezer that is going to enhance the ministry capabilities of our church...

Fellowship & Prayer

Our church voted Wednesday night in business session to use the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church gift to develop our planned fellowship and prayer garden. This area is visible through the west windows in the sanctuary and connects to the fellowship hall through glass doors and a porch with descending steps to ground level.

Licensed

After many months of blood, sweat and tears our weekday childhood education program has received a license from the State of Louisiana to operate as a Class "B" daycare facility. Many thanks go to Karen Farrell, our Director, for preparing our staff, records and facilities to pass inspection.

Reframing Life

During the month of June we have had a great display of local art that has accompanied our sermon series: Reframing Life: A Faith Perspective. Our worship planning team was pleasantly surprised by all of the incredible talent displayed by our church members.

Kneeling at Their Work

A former president in his mid-80s is entitled to do whatever he wishes with his time. So it wrinkled my brow to see President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, on their knees affixing boards to a porch in the Upper Ninth Ward this week.

Changing Central City: Prayer Walk

Dozens of churches in Greater New Orleans are mobilizing Saturday to strike at the root of violence in our city. Hundreds and perhaps thousands of members of local churches will walk through the streets of Central City praying for the residents there and praying for an end to the bloodshed.

A "Normal" Sunday

This past Sunday started like many other Sundays in my life with preparation for worship. Everything went as planned until I plopped down in the driver's seat to leave my house and realized my car would not start. I quickly became frustrated because my car is relatively new and this same exact scenario had just occurred two Sundays ago. The fact that my brother called it "operator error" before and he wasn't around to witness this happening again only added to my annoyance. Thankfully, my mom was gracious enough to loan me her car, so that I was able to make it to church on time.

Golf Tournament

What do you get when you put one great golfer, two good golfers and one bad golfer together on a team? The winning team. At least that is what happened at our annual golf tournament.

Eighty-One Bodies

Thank you, thank you, and thank you to the Corps of Engineers who built them, the Coast Guard who protected them from floating barges and debris, and the God who let the storm surge come just to the lip, but no further.

Pure Religion

What is Pure Religion? James 1:27 seems to be a good starting point but I am still trying to figure out what pure religion really is. When I get it right I will write a book for all of us.

Who's that guy?

Me: Hey, who was that guy sitting across the aisle a little up from us? Him: The tall guy? Directly across? Me: No, the one in the tan coat, balding, with the wife in the red dress. Him: Oh, yeah. I met them a couple of weeks ago - is it Fred and Sandy? No, that's not their names. I thought you had a long conversation with her. Me: Yeah, but you know me. I've slept since then - erased the memory bank.
