A MOMENT IN GOD’S WORD

Read Matthew 24:27
The thunder started with a low rumble. The sound grew louder and louder and suddenly a bright flash of lightning whipped through my window and the crackling sizzle of energy lit up my room. Everything happened so quickly. It was all over in an instant.

I said out loud, “Now, wasn’t that something!” After a moment of silence I whispered, “That really is something.”
I remembered Jesus told his disciples that the Second Coming of Christ would be just like the flash of lightning: sudden, swift, and sure.

You don’t hear many sermons today about the Second Coming of Christ. It’s a topic about future things---things far in the future. Too many present problems demand attention, so preachers avoid future things for things here and now. Yet, the Return of Christ is not just a basic tenet of Bible-believing Christians, it is a doctrine filled with immediate applications. Theologically, the Second Coming ties up some lose ends left when Jesus was crucified, resurrected, and called home to sit at the right hand of the Father(Heb.1:3). In His first appearance, Jesus came as savior; at His second appearance, Jesus will come as judge (Rev. 19:11). Ethically, the Return of Christ causes us to reconsider some of our moral decisions. If Christ returned today, would His eyes meet ours with disappointment as Peter felt at the moment he denied Jesus for the third time (Lk. 22:61)? And practically, the return of Jesus reminds us we have work to do while we remain on earth waiting to go to heaven (Lk. 19:12-13).
Oddly, a flash of lightning not only describes the coming of Christ, it also describes our lives on earth. No matter how long you live, either one year or one hundred years, life passes much too quickly. Grab the lightning while you can, and let it shine brightly in your life today.

A MOMENT IN PRAYER

Continue to pray for Max Dinstuhl who is in a rehab unit on the North Shore.

A MOMENT IN SERVICE

The flowers are starting to bloom and pollen is floating around finding its way into everyone’s sinuses. Go to Wal-Mart and buy the little packages of Kleenex that have the picture of a nun on them with the inscription: “God bless you.” Hand them out to people you encounter with the sniffles and runny eyes.

A MOMENT IN TIME

Saturday is the Senior Adult breakfast at Piccadilly Cafeteria on Jefferson Hwy at 9:00 a.m.

Plan to attend the Sunday lunch meeting on March 9, 2008. At this meeting we will introduce all the opportunities for you and anyone else who may be interested, to minister to seniors.
