What is Pure Religion?

James 1:27 seems to be a good starting point but I am still trying to figure out what pure religion really is. When I get it right I will write a book for all of us. Maybe ten more years of ministry or thirty more years of living life will give me all the answers. I know better than to hold my breath. Until then I think the real point is to keep trying to get it right and to not let it become more about rituals than seeking to know God and live in a way that He would find pleasing.

Pure Religion, our new worship opportunity on Wednesday nights, got started last week. There were over twenty people there. We were pretty candid about a couple of things; our priorities and our direction. We had some technical difficulties, we could not find the projector. I made a point to say that having words on a screen or starting right at six are not our priorities. We just want to pray, worship, and learn together on Wednesday nights to recharge us for the rest of the week. We want to foster pure religion. As far as our direction goes; we've got a plan but we don't want our plan to be anything more than a guide as we seek what God wants us to do so it can truly be "Pure Religion."
